Foams, adhesives and films manufactured from these materials enable optimal moisture management in wound dressings, which is important for improving the quality of patient care.

Covestro, formerly Bayer MaterialScience, is presenting its innovative Baymedix® polyurethane technology for modern wound dressings at the Compamed trade show November 16 to 19, 2015, in Düsseldorf, Germany. Foams, adhesives and films manufactured from Baymedix® materials as well as specialty films from the Platilon® portfolio enable optimal moisture management in wound dressings, which is important for improving the quality of patient care.

Modern wound dressings can be produced efficiently and sustainably from just three components if the materials are combined appropriately. Direct coating of the film with adhesive or foam eliminates laminating steps, and optimized drying times further enhance process efficiency. Reduced waste and the avoidance of solvents in the manufacturing process also result in more sustainable products.

“Our Baymedix® product portfolio enables us to fulfill the desire of many manufacturers to generate added value through innovation and differentiation, and to thus improve their own competitiveness,” said Martin Huettner, Marketing Manager Medical at Covestro. “This is difficult to achieve with the established raw materials on the market.”

The differences are particularly pronounced when it comes to moisture management. Wound dressings made from Covestro materials are breathable, exhibit a high absorption capacity and outstanding retention. In addition, the adjustable adhesive strengths of adhesives based on Baymedix® technology make “low trauma removal” – an important issue in wound care – readily achievable.
